At 16, Naveen was asked to accompany a local amateur dramatic society doing Oklahoma. The first rehearsal was a disaster and Naveen should have tried much harder at sight-reading when he was younger. It did however open the door to him, to the fantastic music experience of guiding people through a show and by the production, a new passion was found. By 18, he was Musically Directing the same company, his own and others.
Since then Naveen has staged over 20 full scale productions
- Opera & Gilbert and Sullivan through to Pop
- Amateur and professional
- Casts from 5 members to 70 (of all ages)
- Both licensed and devised/composed productions
Experiences with Theatre Workshop in Edinburgh and through artistic connections in his previous position as Musical Director at London Metropolitan University have resulted in national press reviews at 4 and 5 stars.
Naveen has also worked with several choirs. Church, college and youth groups have given him the opportunity to form and perform with several choirs and whilst in India train choirs for inter-collegiate competitions.
Currently, he is working with the following choirs:
London Youth Gospel Choir (Musical Director – North; Project Coordinator)
www.lygc.org.uk
Holborn Community Association’s choir
www.holborncommunity.co.uk
- Reed Smith LLP
- NEFES (Turkish Community Choir)
“Nav made my 3-month stay in London feel much too short. I had met him for about 3 seconds at the London Met student event fair (“Hi! You look like you sing! Want to sing?” he said) and when I showed up for choir rehearsal a week later, he actually remembered me – which I thought was really impressive, considering how many people he seems to know.
Nav is unlike any choir director I’ve had before. He’s fun, energetic, and talented, and it’s really obvious that he loves what he’s doing. He encourages people to get to know each other and to really be involved in what they’re doing. Even if you don’t like to sing, join choir with Nav – he will make you love it.”
